The Highline Building—Coming Soon
New retail stores and office space are coming to historic downtown Apex. Watch for a three-story 32,000-square-foot, mixed-use building to be constructed at 209 N. Salem Street. The Highline Building will feature five street-level shops, outdoor seating, an elevator to the second and third floor offices, and balconies overlooking Salem Street on the second and third floors. Highline is expected to open next winter. Local resident and former NHL player Tim Brent is behind this project. Look for our interview with Tim in the next issue of Suburban Living.
ELK Local Foods—Open
Longtime Apex resident Lora Neel and her daughters, Kira and Ellie, have opened ELK Local Foods at 103 E. Chatham Street in Downtown Apex. Inspired by their enjoyment of fresh, nutritious and locally sourced products found at farmers markets, ELK (which stands for Ellie, Lora, and Kira) is a specialty food store. CARDIACS Sports & Memorabilia—Open
Open after years at the Cary Towne Center Mall, CARDIACS has a new home and brand-new MAN CAVE experience. CARDIACS is “Your Home of the Card Maniac in You” stocking all the most popular sporting and entertainment cards from Topps, Panini, Upper Deck, Leaf and many more. The framed, signed memorabilia collection through the store is unbelievable and all certified in authenticity. The MAN CAVE experience includes 30 feet of dual-sided card bar, an 84” TV to go with the other 18 big-screen TVs throughout the store, pool table, video games and coming soon will be a full layout of licensed team furniture and accessories. They also have a full range of fan items from lanyards, koozies, decals, stickers, magnets, flags, and pennants celebrating all your favorite teams and most memorable moments as true fans.
The new store is at 1101 Marco Drive lower-level Apex. The custom-built building houses CARDIACS in the 6,000- square-foot lower level, while the upper level offers three upscale business condos, 2,000 square feet each, that have six offices, a conference room, kitchenette, bathroom, and reception area in each. The middle unit is being offered as full-service available office suites with access to the kitchenette, bathroom and conference room. CARDIACS is open Monday through Saturday from 11AM until 7PM.
Broadstone Walk Apartments—Coming Soon
Apex’s affordable-housing plans are progressing with the unanimously approved loan of $3 million by the Wake County Board of Commissioners to support the Broadstone Walk Apartments. Sixty units consisting of one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments will be constructed on S. Hughes Street near Walmart. The complex, projected to be completed in 2023, will offer residents a playground and outdoor recreation area, laundry facilities and a community center.
First Watch—Now Open
First Watch is a new favorite that opened in January at 1280 W. Williams Street. Whether your preference is breakfast, brunch, or lunch, you’re sure to find something delicious on the First Watch menu. Omelets, frittatas, waffles, pancakes, acai or quinoa bowls, avocado toast, and classic bacon and eggs are just a few of the specialties, both traditional and innovative, being dished up by the First Watch Apex chefs. Justin Clayton State Farm —Now Open

This new State Farm agent is located in Olive Chapel Professional Park at the corner of Olive Chapel and Chapel Ridge Rd. They serve the Apex and larger Triangle community. They offer Auto, Fire, Life and Health Insurance for businesses and families.
Felton Grove High School—Proposed
Plans are in the works for a new high school at 8550 Stephenson Road. Initial projections are for a three-story, 363,000-square-foot building on 66.5 acres with a football stadium; baseball, softball, and multi-purpose fields; tennis and basketball courts; and a parking deck. Still in the design stage, the Wake County Public School System anticipates construction will begin in spring 2022 and be completed in summer 2024. Felton Grove is slated to accommodate 2,350 WCPSS students.
