Yellow Door Décor—OPEN
Looking for the latest in home décor? A diverse group of artists, vendors, and designers opened Yellow Door Décor in June. Unique gifts, vintage items, antiques, artwork, and Southern hospitality are all on display at 305 S. Salem St. in Apex. Look for the white ranch home with the inviting front porch and, of course, the yellow door. Check their website (yellowdoordecor.com) and Facebook page for their hours and information related to online orders with in-store pick-up.
Peak City Hots—OPEN
The folks who brought the popular “trash plate” food truck concept from Rochester, New York to the Triangle, now have a restaurant right here in Apex. Never had a trash plate before? It’s your choice of meat (or not) on a bed of side dishes, and topped with mustard, onions, and a special meat sauce. Open since June, Peak City Hots is located at 841 Perry Road, behind Auto Zone. See all of their trash plate combinations and the rest of their menu at www.peakcityhotsapex.com.
Happy Tails Veterinary Hospital
Dr. Sara Cátala opened the doors to her veterinary hospital in April and she and her staff have been welcoming the furry family members of area residents ever since. Located at 1460 Kelly Rd, Suite 101 (across the street from the Publix shopping center), Dr. Cátala and her practice specialize in fear-free veterinary medicine. She strives for the “least stressful, frightening, and anxious” treatments for her patients and their owners. Alpaca Peruvian Charcoal Chicken—COMING THIS FALL
If you frequent Nichols Plaza (where Costco and Academy Sports are located), you may have seen the banner announcing that Alpaca Chicken is moving in. We reached out to them and learned that they still have work to do in the restaurant, but they’re hoping to open in October or November.
Sweetwater Town Center —Under Construction
Sweetwater Town Center is the commercial portion of the Sweetwater subdivision off Highway 64 west of downtown Apex. Four years ago, the Sweetwater subdivision broke ground in Apex with over 400 single-family lots. Phase 1 of Sweetwater Town Center is now underway at the entrance of the subdivision. Phase 2 will include a grocery store and hotel.
Designed to resemble a small town from the turn of the century, the 45-acre Town Center will feature approximately 500,000 square feet of mixed-use space including retail, dining, entertainment, hotel, medical and office space, along with 230 apartment homes. Designed for connection, the Town Center is spread across five multi-story buildings, situated around an event lawn and stage for concerts, movies and other exciting events, with market pavilions for pop-up retail and a farmer’s market, making it a true mixed-use center.
Construction is expected to start this fall. For more information, contact Preston Waldo at Retail Strategies. Phone 919-789-4447. You can also visit www.sweetwaterapex.com.
