What do moms really want for Mother’s Day? Flowers and jewelry and chocolates are a wonderful time-honored tradition for Mother’s Day, but in the craziness of today’s world, thinking outside the box might make mom extra happy this year. Here are a few ideas of what mom might really want on her special day.
Quiet Time
For most moms, the days and nights are filled with someone always needing her attention. Whether it is a boss or co-worker during the day and kids at night, or kids all day at home, most moms have very little time to just sit and breathe.
For Mother’s Day try giving mom an outlet for quiet. That can be dad or another adult taking the kids out for an hour for ice cream or letting her soak in a hot tub without an audience (this includes the dog!). Never underestimate the power of a nice hot bath. Mom will feel like the queen she is and she will have more energy to spend an amazing day with those she loves the most.
Apex is also full of wonderful little spots where mom can go for an hour to have a coffee and read a good book, or catch up on the latest celebrity gossip, while the kids are being entertained at home.
Sleep
When in doubt, let mom sleep. Every mom loves to wake up to the faces of her beautiful babies, but no mom will ever turn down the opportunity to sleep for as long as she wants. It’s a gift that she will appreciate long after her first cup of coffee. If you truly want to be a superstar, tell mom to take a nap during the day, preferably in a quiet house or on a comfortable lounge chair with a cold drink.
A Clean House
What mom wouldn’t love to wake up on Mother’s Day to a clean house? Where all the toys are actually put away, shoes are where they can be found in the morning, and that single sock that has been laying on the steps since last Mother’s Day has found its mate and is living happily ever after in the sock drawer. The house doesn’t have to pass the white glove test, just showing mom that you are trying can go a long way.
Time with Other Moms
Moms love spending time with their family, but sometimes she needs a little girl talk. Get together with other dads or significant others of your mom’s best friends and plan a time for them to get together without having to cut up someone else’s food. This can be a meal, or a concert, or just sitting around in their comfy yoga pants eating ice cream straight from the carton while weeping over the latest Nicholas Sparks movie. Or how about an escape room outing or laser tag? After all, moms like adventure too! Try Roll On Up Gaming in Apex for some mom-centered fun. The mobile gaming unit can come straight to her and her friends.
Honey-DONE List
Every mom has a honey-do list. Take that list and check it off. One less thing for mom to worry about will ensure a day of relaxation and more energy for the fun things the day has to offer.
Anything Homemade
Whether it is a macaroni necklace that jingles when she walks, or a tiny handprint suspended in time, there is nothing in this world that she will love more than something her child has made. Some construction paper and crayons can make the gift that she will remember forever.
On Mother’s Day just remember, sometimes the best gifts are the ones that can’t be wrapped or found in a store. They cost nothing but mean everything.
