In July 2025, the Town of Apex kicked off Peak Plan 2055, an 18-month community-driven planning effort to guide the town’s growth, conservation, and transportation investments through the year 2055.
Throughout the process, they are asking community members to answer:
What’s your dream for Apex?
Peak Plan 2055 is being created to provide Town leaders with a roadmap for making long-term decisions about development, housing, economic opportunities, transportation, and open space conservation. What will come from this 18-month process? A new comprehensive plan, transportation plan, and special study of the NC 55 corridor between Olive Chapel Road and US 1 Highway. And community input is a central part of every step of the process.
What is the project timeline?
The planning process is divided into three phases, each including public engagement opportunities.
In October and November of 2025, community members provided input about existing conditions in Apex, and shared ideas for the town’s future through an in-person Public Forum event and an online survey. Major themes emerged around growth and balance, mobility options, housing choices, public infrastructure and services, the environment, and quality of life and place. The amount and pace of population increase was a top priority to address among participants. The Town experienced an approximate 71% growth in population between 2010 and 2020. That rate drastically outpaced both Wake County and North Carolina as a whole, according to U.S. Census data.
How can you get involved?
In early 2026, community members can weigh in on what they want to see – with a focus on alternative growth choices. A Public Forum event will showcase different ways our community can take shape including development types, locations, intensities, and patterns. The growth choices will also vary in how open space is preserved and what infrastructure will be needed to support each idea. Feedback received at this event will help to guide the Town’s ultimate land use vision and transportation plan.
