For its 75,000 citizens, Apex is more than the Peak of Good Living. We recently asked 10 residents to describe what they enjoy most about living here.
“The people are what makes Apex great! Our community has worked very hard to maintain its small town feel and history. Even as the area has grown, you will find friendly, outgoing and service-driven residents who are always willing to help one another. Numerous events in historic downtown Apex bring together family, friends and neighbors throughout the year. Apex truly is a town that welcomes new and respects our traditions.” – Mark Simmons
“Apex is a great place to live because it has so much to offer, from the small-town feel and charm of Salem Street, to the many greenways and trails for enjoying the outdoors, plus easy access to shopping and the nearby cities of Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill. Apex is a beautiful place to call home.” – Amy Foschini
“There are so many great things about living in Apex. The first thing is the people. It’s a friendly and diverse community that is accommodating and supportive. There is a wide variety of activities to do for people of all ages on a weekly basis. The variety of festivals provides opportunities for local businesses and residents to showcase their offerings and talents. In addition, it is also convenient to commute to many areas of the Triangle.” – Marlow Campbell
“Having that small town environment with local activities (farmers market, parades and events downtown, pancake breakfast with Santa, etc.) and being close to plenty of concerts, sports and art venues in Raleigh and Durham.” – Janet Willis
“Access to greenways and parks and reasonable property tax rates” – Bill Barfield
“What I love about Apex is that you have a central downtown complete with shopping, locally owned restaurants, a top-notch community center, and that feeling that when you go out you will see friends from a town that, while very diverse, shares a sense of community that can only be found in some very rare settings. I’ve lived in Apex for 22 years. I’ve raised four kids here. While we are close to the benefits and amenities of Raleigh and Durham, we have our own town, complete with everything you need to never have to leave (if you don’t want to). I love this town and this region. I moved here for a reason and have never regretted my decision to be here. In today’s very remote world, many have a choice on where they live and my choice is here in Apex.” – Brian Bolt
“We love raising our kids in Apex. There’s such a sense of community and always something fun going on!” – Amy Steeves
“Apex is a great place to live because it offers the best of both worlds in terms of a small town vs. big city experience! In spite of the incredible growth over recent years, Apex still has the charm of a small town. However, everything I appreciate about bigger cities (restaurants, entertainment, shopping, culture, and more!) can be found in close proximity. I love that I get to live, work, and enjoy my downtime all without leaving Apex, but can easily access the rest of the Triangle when I’m in the mood for other experiences.” – Carrie Lee
“What drew me to Apex was the cute downtown, so I’d have to say that is my favorite thing about Apex. I love all the unique shops and restaurants you can find there. The festivals downtown bring the community together and also give it a small hometown feel!” – Megan Mott
“My favorite thing about Apex is the sense of community. It still has that small-town feel where you see folks you know from school or sports even when you are grocery shopping; your kid and their friends work in town, and people still look out for one another.” – G. Liz Flecha
Did these statements make you smile as they did for us? A telltale sign of loving where you live is knowing what you’d miss if you moved away. For me, a longtime resident of Apex, that comes easy: The quietness our town boasts, and the sights and sounds of nature that abound all year; the Southern charm our historic district exudes; the feeling of coziness, tucked away from large, urban sprawl; the favorite haunt where we walk our dog and admire its resident herons; the familiarity of shops, restaurants and businesses I’ve frequented for years; and the comfort of neighbors whose children grew up alongside mine.
Apex is growing and changing but, in many ways, it will stay the same. The warmth and geniality of its people are what make this town an unbeatable place to live.
Quaint yet cultured, burgeoning yet friendly – that’s Apex, the perfect place to call home.
