New Yard Waste Schedule Begins October 19
Providing high quality and consistent service remains the top priority of the Apex Public Works team. As the town grows and equipment ages, the yard waste program has experienced increased challenges meeting service demand. We’re making some changes to the collection schedule that will help us effectively and efficiently serve all of Apex on a consistent schedule.
Collection Will Now Be Biweekly
Currently, the town attempts to collect yard waste from every home every week. Beginning October 19, 2026, the Town of Apex Yard Waste program will move to biweekly yard waste collection for all residents. The new schedule will reduce the number of missed collections and allow more time for vehicle maintenance — resulting in more trucks on the road serving our community.
In order to effectively and efficiently serve all of Apex on a consistent schedule, residents will now be placed into two collection zones — Zone A and Zone B. Each zone is collected biweekly.
Two Distinct Yard Waste Seasons Impact Your Assigned Pickup Day
Moving forward, the yard waste program will be split into two distinct collection seasons — “peak leaf season” biweekly collection and “regular season” biweekly collection.
Peak Leaf Season Collection
Peak Leaf Season is a period of anticipated increases in yard waste collection volumes as trees shed leaves and limbs.
Dates: October 19, 2026 — February 5, 2027
Collection Frequency: Biweekly
Collection Day: Residents have no assigned collection day during Peak Leaf Season. Residents should place all accepted yard waste at the curb by 6 a.m. on Monday of their collection week.

Regular Season Collection
Dates: February 8, 2027 — October 2027 (anytime outside of Peak Leaf Season)
Schedule: Biweekly
Assigned Collection Day: Residents will have a specific assigned collection day during Regular Season. For many residents, this assigned day may be different from your current assigned day, so be sure to get familiar with the new schedule!
During regular season collection, residents are required to place yard waste at the curb within 48 hours prior to their collection day.

Yard Waste Ordinances

The town now offers a full-page insert in every monthly bill that shares information about your utility service, along with event and program highlights for the coming month. Volunteering
Throughout the year, the town offers opportunities for residents to give back to their community. Activities include storm drain marking, special events, trail and park beautification, and athletics coaching, to name a few. Think Apex Day is an annual day of organized community service that offers opportunities for all ages.

Round Up Program
Our Round Up program allows Apex utility customers to support other customers in need by rounding their utility bills to the nearest dollar. All funds received through the Round Up program go directly to our community non-profit partner, NeighborUp (formerly Western Wake Crisis Ministries), who is responsible for administering the program.
