See you at The Party!
Join the Town of Apex for our “Party in the Peak” on Saturday, September 23 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Town Campus! The Party is organized by the Town of Apex, and is the signature event of the Apex 150th celebration year. It features interactive displays designed to engage the community through our past, present, and potential.
Live music, storytelling, local performances, and a kids area are all part of the celebration, along with some of your favorite local food trucks offering specialty Party in the Peak celebration items to enjoy. Bring your friends, family, and neighbors to celebrate this once-in-a-lifetime event, while learning more about Apex. And don’t forget to bring your Passport to the Peak!
Passport to the Peak
The Passport to the Peak is a free, all-in-one guide to the Apex 150 celebration year and offers over 150 ways to celebrate. If you are new to Apex, love learning about your town, or just love free prizes – the Passport is for you! For every ten activities completed, you earn prizes like “Peak of Good Living” items (16-ounce glass, shoelaces, ball cap, and beach towel), and a hand-painted 8 x 10 print of downtown Apex. Those who complete their Passport to the Peak with 60 activities earn a special-edition Sesquicentennial coin.
Reaching the Peak through our Past, Present, and Potential
How we’re exploring our Past:
Along with the Apex 150 website, www.apex150.com, the Town of Apex has also worked hand in hand with community experts to tell stories of historic communities in and around Apex, and showcase unique aspects of Apex history. The Apex 150 Banner Collection highlights specific groups of hyper-local history in Apex. There are ten banners in the collection featuring community-led history about:
Black Heritage
Centennial Celebration
Apex Economy
Downtown Apex
Hispanic Heritage
Indigenous Peoples Heritage
Public Safety
Town of Apex Government
Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources
Women’s Heritage
For nearly the first 100 years of incorporation, the official town limits may have only been one square mile but the Apex community was much larger. Outside of the town limits were many thriving communities with their own unique histories and cultures. The Apex 150 celebration year strives to promote unification and common understanding by sharing stories of community members from many backgrounds and experiences. One way we are combining that ambition with the history of Apex is through virtual community tours. Seven community tours have been compiled in partnership with community experts and are available online at www.apex150.com/tours.
How we’re highlighting our Present:
Knowing who we are as a community today is just as important as knowing who we’ve been and who we want to be. One way the Apex 150 celebration year is showcasing our “present” is through video interviews as part of the What Makes Apex Home video series. The series serves as a video archive capturing stories from Apex community members of all ages, backgrounds, and experiences. Each interviewee is asked to reflect on a favorite and/or important memory of Apex, share what makes Apex home to them, and forecast their hopes for Apex’s future. These questions take the vision of the year – past, present, and potential – and turn it into recorded memories and dreams.
The Party in the Peak will elevate these interviews by carving out dedicated event space during the celebration for attendees to explore moments, memories, and dreams from fellow Apex community members.
How we’re realizing our Potential:
The Apex 150 celebration year gives us all an opportunity to look at the past 150 years and toward the next 150 years. At the Party on September 23, attendees will be able to take those ideas and dreams and share them by writing their hopes on paper and adding them to an interactive art installation. Additional information to come!
